May 27,1997 McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk Most expert opinion in the U.S. Navy refused to believe the claim of Ed Heinemann, chief engineer of what was then Douglas El Segundo, that he could build a jet attack bomber weighing half the 30,000lbs specified by the Navy. The first Skyhawk, nicknamed "Heinemann's Hot Rod", not only flew but gained a world record by flying a 500km circuit at over 695mph.The later versions of this aircraft did approach the 30,000lb weight ceiling, but only because the basic design had been improved with more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity, and a much heavier weapons load. The wing was made as a single unit, forming an integral fuel tank and so small it did not need to fold. The F model introduced the dorsal hump containing additional avionics. SPECIFICATIONS: ENGINE: 1 Pratt & Whitney J52-6 two-shaft turbojet 9,300 lb(4218 kg) DIMENTIONS: Span 27ft 6in Length 40ft 1.5in Height 15ft WEIGHT: Empty 7,700lbs Maximum Loaded 24,000lbs This model was created in Lightwave 5.0 all markings are stenciled in,so if you want to add texture maps to complete its "war-weary look" feel free to do so.
